These investments provide jobs for American workers and help them to support their families and communities. October is National Energy Action Month, when Americans are called up to work together, "to achieve greater energy security, a more robust economy, and a healthier environment for our children" -- as President Obama wrote in an official proclamation [at the beginning of the month].... we must also harness our greatest natural resource -- the creativity, drive, and entrepreneurial spirit of the American people. Across our country, scientists and engineers are laying the groundwork for the next big energy breakthrough, farmers across rural America are producing homegrown fuels, students are promoting conservation in their communities, and autoworkers are manufacturing the next generation of fuel-efficient cars. If we continue to invest in American potential, I am confident that new plants and factories will dot our landscape and new energy will power our future.Those goals are the reason that the President is pursuing an all-of-the-above strategy to help the United States achieve energy independence. |
